Diorama: Inventing Illusion {Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt}

The SCHIRN presents a major exhi­bi­tion dedi­cated to the cultural history of vision. It focuses on the diorama, which is used to recon­struct and real­is­ti­cally stage events, stories, and habi­tats with the aid of various means. Marc Nicely appears at work painting in an African Hall diorama at California Academy of Sciences. Exhibition runs October 6, 2017 to January 21, 2018.

Petaluma artist Marc Nicely enjoys coming home to do a bit of sculpting of his own. Working in his garage, Nicely, 48, often works overtime to fill commissions from the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, a relationship he has enjoyed for 16 years.
